Federal Student Aid help at local college planned

Northwestern Michigan College will again host College Goal Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, February 14 in Rooms 146-147 of the Beckett Building on main campus. College Goal Sunday is a nationwide effort to help families access financial aid for college.

During the event, participants will get free help filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form online. FAFSA is the first and most important step in determining most college loans, grants and other financial aid nationwide. Families may underestimate how much financial aid can help and risk losing available assistance if they fail to submit the FASFA form by the March 1 Michigan deadline.

Trained volunteers will be available to help families fill out and file the form online. Parents and students should each bring:

  • Completed 2009 federal tax returns if possible; if not, 2008 federal returns
  • 2009 untaxed income records (i.e. social security, child support)
  • Driver’s licenses or alien registration cards
  • Social security numbers
  • FAFSA PIN numbers for one parent and the student. Obtain a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov ideally two weeks before the event.

For more information about the local event or about the NMC financial aid office, e-mail financialaid@nmc.edu or call (231) 995-1560. Visitors coming to campus for the event should park in the Maple parking lot, which is located close to NMC’s east entrance. See a campus map here.
